In Secondary school : Ideas mapping

Create simplified diagrams (and key) using photographs or a detailed maps

  • Import an aerial photograph of a built-up area into PAPERSHOW, print it onto the PAPERSHOW FOR TEACHERS interactive paper and show your pupils the various elements that make up the area: the historic centre, the suburbs, industrial zones, main roads etc. Using arrows or circles you can mark and define specific areas, and using the magnifier you can zoom in on a particular part of the picture.
  • After this explanation, use the “blank page” icon in the toolbar to add a new page. Pass around a new sheet of paper and the pen, and ask the pupils to take it in turns to map out a simplified diagram of the built-up area.
  • If needed you can divide the page by drawing a vertical line: for example 2/3 for the diagram and 1/3 for the key
  • Pass the EXTRA toolbar around too so that the pupils have a full choice of colours.

Benefits:

  • Using the tools provided (magnifier, virtual mask, colours, perfect shapes...) you can easily highlight the important parts of the picture.
  • Your pupils will find it easy to link what they hear with what they see, which aids understanding and memory.
  • While sitting in their own seat, they will be more inclined to participate in the exercise, especially activities which involve drawing.
